There is something so special about capturing photographs in the first few weeks of a newborn’s life—the tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and the overwhelming love that fills the room. Recently, I had the honor of photographing baby Sloane and her wonderful parents, Tyler and Tanner. A couple of years ago I photographed their ranch wedding and when I got the message that they were expecting and wanted to document this next chapter I was SO excited. So on a rainy afternoon in their cozy Northern California home, I got to meet their newest family member.

A Warm and Relaxed In-Home Session

From the moment I stepped into their home, I could feel the love and excitement surrounding baby Sloane. She arrived in the world 7 weeks early (and within hours of another sweet cousin). Tiny but mighty, she was just the cutest little bebe. She went from sleeping peacefully in her parents’ arms to wide awake taking in her surroundings. Tyler and Tanner wanted a relaxed, natural feel to their photos, focusing on the candid moments of their new little family just soaking in these first precious days together.

Capturing the Small Details

One of my favorite things about newborn photography is documenting the tiny details—the itty bitty ears, the way Sloane’s little fingers curled around Tyler’s hand, and the sweet way she snuggled against Tanner’s chest. These are the moments that fade all too quickly, and I love being able to preserve them forever through photographs.

A Love-Filled Morning

We started the session with some cozy family portraits by the window in Sloane’s nursery, letting the soft cloudy day light highlight the love between them. It was so beautiful to see the way Tyler and Tanner looked at their daughter, completely in awe of this tiny human they created. The quiet moments of rocking her to sleep, kissing her forehead, and holding her close were simply magical. The newborn bubble is REAL, and getting a peek into it is one of the best parts of my job.

And then we moved to the living room for some more traditional newborn shots.

Looking Ahead

As baby Sloane continues to grow, these photos will be a cherished reminder of the early days—the sleepless nights, the endless cuddles, and the beginning of a new chapter for Tyler and Tanner as parents.
